“Yeah, we spent the night with them. They’re coming up behind us now.”

“You pulled them out?”

“Yeah, yesterday”

“Yesterday!” I exclaimed!

“Yeah.”

We let them continue, and we positioned ourselves in the road, ready to intercept.

“They were pulled out yesterday,” I said to Barbara. “So where the hell were they?”

We waited ten minutes, and heard the whaling engine of the Landy as it approached. Glen drove up, gave a wave out of the window and pulled over.

“How ya goin?” Glen said, jumping out of the car with a smile on his face.

We exchanged handshakes.

“We were worried about you, mate,” I said.

“Oh, we were right,” he smiled.

"So we heard."

I gave the car a quick look. “Hey Glen, why’s the spare on the back?”

“Tire went flat when we pulled it out. But come on, lets go to Archer River!”

Back at Archer River, we sat down at the bar to hear the tail. Owen and his two friends – the guys that rescued Glen and the girls – were there too. They were all very, very drunk.

“So let’s hear it,” I said, all of us seating ourselves at a table.

“Well, you left, and we were pretty pissed off,” Glen went on.

“Yeah,” Sue added, “we were thinking, he’s probably sitting down to burgers and fries now. Bloody bastard.”

I gave a quick smile. “You were right.”

“Well, we set up camp and cooked dinner, then went to bed. The next day, I was just standing outside when I hard this boom, boom, boomp boomp boomp, this music pumping through the air. And these guys rolled up. And I said, “yeah, we’re a bit stuck, but we’re right.” So they left, but five minutes later I heard boom, boom boomp boomp, and they came back!”

Owen laughed. “He said he didn’t need help, so we kept going. But then the girls got out of the tent and Gordon was like, there’s two chick’s getting out of that tent! Turn around! Turn around! That dude’s havin’ a threesome!”

We all laughed.

“So we turned around and winched them out.”

“So wait a second,” I interjected. “The car’s stuck in the river, Glen, and when they ask if you’re right you said YEAH??”
